Be Bright, Get a Light

Like to walk after dark? Consider investing in a lightweight wearable light system such as those sold for nighttime bicycling. Look for one that attaches to a head band and has a lightweight battery that will fit in a waist pack. Get a small rear flashing light (also available at bike shops) and attach it to the pack. You'll be amazed how well a wearable light will illuminate the road and attract attention.
