When you're approached by an unleashed dog on the trail, don't automatically reach out to pet it. Even though the pooch may appear harmless, it may be protecting its owner and snap at you. Always treat dogs as dangerous until you have been "introduced" by its owner. And urge dog owners to keep their pets on a leash.
