Heat Before, Ice After

Are your knees aching from too much breaststroke kick? Shoulders sore from general overuse? Treat yourself right! Before exercising, warm the injured area. Moist heat is best (a heating pad applied over a wet towel works well). After working out, ice for approximately ten minutes. An ice massage is particularly effective, and easy to do. A half-filled, frozen Dixie cup works well. Simply rub the affected area and tear back the sides of the cup as the ice melts. The paper allows you to hold the ice more comfortably while massaging yourself.
