There is no single prescription for efficient running; we are all put together
differently. There are general principles of body form that can be applied to
all runners. Be sensitive to your own structure and abilities and never force a
particular running style on yourself that doesn't feel right. The ankle is a
highly efficient lever. As you strengthen your lower leg muscles and learn to
shift your body weight forward, the ankles can do more of the work and save
energy. Try to feel your calf muscles giving you a direct push on each step,
taking over some of the load from the upper (hamstring) leg muscles.
