Points on Form - Arms

There is no single prescription for efficient running; we are all put together differently. There are general principles of body form that can be applied to all runners. Be sensitive to your own structure and abilities and never force a particular running style on yourself that doesn't feel right. The main function of the arms is coordination with the legs. At the completion of each arm swing, a nerve signal tells the legs to work again. When held in a relaxed swing fairly low and close to the body very little effort is required to keep your arms in place and you'll tend to get a quicker response from your feet. But if you hold your arms out from your body, your arms and shoulders will tire quickly.
