Go Hard and Easy

Training involves a process of stress + rest = performance, commonly referred to as the hard/easy training principle. "Hard" refers to a workout that is faster or longer than the average workout at your current level. "Easy" refers to a session done slowly or over a short distance, an easy workout in an alternate aerobic sport, or even a rest day.
