Don't let the energy of the crowd pull you faster than your race pace for more than a few
hundred yards. You'll have a sense of pace from your interval speedwork repetitions.
In fact, run the first mile of a marathon or a 10K about 10 seconds slower than race pace,
to get thoroughly warmed up. Then get into your race pace and hold it; otherwise you'll
miss your goal. Remember, for every second per mile you go too fast in the first half
of the race, you'll run 5-10 seconds slower at the end.
