Racing - Settle Down

Don't let the energy of the crowd pull you faster than your race pace for more than a few hundred yards. You'll have a sense of pace from your interval speedwork repetitions. In fact, run the first mile of a marathon or a 10K about 10 seconds slower than race pace, to get thoroughly warmed up. Then get into your race pace and hold it; otherwise you'll miss your goal. Remember, for every second per mile you go too fast in the first half of the race, you'll run 5-10 seconds slower at the end.
