When riding, it's usually necessary to look behind to check for traffic or see where your riding companions are. This movement often causes you to weave slightly as you glance back--not a good thing to do in traffic or when you're riding next to a friend. To look back safely, sit up slightly, then turn your head and shoulders to peek back over your left shoulder. Here's the trick to keep you riding a straight line: as you look back to the left, relax your arms. The relaxed bend in your elbows absorbs the twist in your upper body so the twisting motion isn't transferred through your handlebars to your front wheel. Practice this move in an empty parking lot before you attempt it on the road.
