There is no single prescription for efficient running; a person's body mechanics
determines what will be most efficient for him. There are, however, general
principles of body form that can be applied to all runners. Be sensitive to
your own structure and abilities and never force a particular running style on
yourself that doesn't feel right. Believe it or not, a longer stride will not
lead to faster running. Experienced competitive runners find that their stride
length shortens as they run faster. A key to faster running is stride frequency.
If you increase the speed of your footfall and get a good strong push off,
you'll improve. Most runners have too long a stride.
