Your to-do list has a few neglected items right? Get in shape, spend more
time with your family, meet some new people, stay healthy. Guess what? You
can do it all at once. Walking is more than a great way to get fit and
healthy. Walking is a social activity. Use it to build personal bonds
that will last a lifetime. Theres lots of ways.
Walk With a Friend
Grab a friend and head out for a walk. The movement and fresh air will
not only loosen up your muscles, but your thoughts too. Walking can be a
relaxing time to engage in uninterrupted conversation, catch up with a
friend, or hear about your kids day.
Join a Walking Club
Get involved with a group. You can find a walking club just about anywhere,
and if you join one you are bound to meet new people who share your
desire to be healthy and active. Think of all the possibilities for great
new friendships. Walking groups are drawn from all age groups. Clubs often
visit parks or scenic areas that you never would have seen otherwise, and
this will give you lots to talk about with your new buddies.
Check Out Race Walking
Want to meet people who share your competitive spirit, and get really fit
at the same time? Just like the walking clubs, there are hundreds of race
walking organizations and lots of events to choose from. Join a race walk
training club and youll build supportive friendships with teammates who
share your competitive goals. Its hard to take part in a reciprocal training
relationship without forming a strong bond at the same time. By the time
race day comes around, you and your friends will be laughing all the way to
the finish line.
